It is with great pride and pleasure that I am able to announce that both Lance and I will be editors of the Gateway for the 2010/11 publishing year. Lance will be Design & Production Editor and I will be Arts & Entertainment Editor starting in May.
We’re both incredibly excited and anxious to start as editors for the Gateway’s 100th year. We are both honoured and humbled to be chosen for our positions and we hope to do our predecessors and contemporaries proud. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s also going to be a lot of fun.
We’re especially pleased to be able to work with many of our good friends: (from left to right, all positions incoming) Opinion Editor Aaron Yeo, Deputy News Editor Simon Yackulic, Me, Senior News Editor Alex Eldridge, and Lance. Not pictured: Photo Editor Dan Mckechnie, Managing Editor Justin Bell, Online Editor Jordan Ching, and Editor-in-Chief Jonn Kmech. Special thanks to Jonn (and GHB company) for actually trusting us with the jobs. And I’d like to thank Outgoing Arts & Entertainment Editor (and this week’s podcast guest) Sarah Stead, for helping me become even vaguely qualified for my position.
Here’s to what should be another great year. Let’s just hope we don’t fuck it up now that we’re driving the thing. That would reflect poorly on us.

On the third edition of our fine podcast, we’re joined by Cody Civiero, former Opinion Editor for the Gateway. We talk about Safewalk, jury duty, Toyota cars, and crazy people on the Internet. We generally stay on topic too, which is totally muffin. On the Power Minute, Ross Vincent discusses moustache variation. And finally, on “Would You Rather…?” we debate the merits of having D-cup breasts or losing one’s testicles.

Edit: Fixed broken transition prior to the Power Minute.
On our secondest episode ever, we’re joined by Doug Johnson, known most notably for co-creating the character TV Head. We talk about about why numbers might be unlucky, the future of the Indiana Jones series, and ponder why the Internet is nominated for a Noble prize. We also talk about Zoolander 2 and why it’s going to be the best movie ever. On “Would You Rather” we debate which is better or worse: farting all the time or awkward silences following every conversation.

Earlier today, during a press conference held in SUB’s 3rd floor bathroom, co-creator and writer for Pop and Ice Cream and Kari Cherry, Evan Mudryk, announced that the Tuesday strips would be placed on a temporary, but indefinite, hiatus.
“We’re in final stretch of the winter semester and between pursuing editorial positions at the Gateway and trying to maintain B- averages, we simply cannot continue to produce two comics on a regular basis,” said Evan Mudryk, letting out a fart that he thought no one would notice, even though I totally did.
“It’s a disappointment for sure, but it’s temporary, and we’re looking towards the future now. It’s within our monkey fists.”
Kari Cherry, which had been made during the summer months and ran for the fall 2009 semester, ended in December and was not renewed immediately by its creators. Its future is currently unknown.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Kari Cherry, but Pop and Ice Cream is the comic we’re making right now, and anything beyond would be more work for Lance and he’s a lazy asshole,” said Evan Mudryk, of his cohort.
The news wasn’t all bad though. Evan Mudryk did confirm that newly debuted podcast, A Serious Moment, had been picked up for minimum 10 episode order–with the option to produce more episodes–and would, ideally, be produced on a weekly basis.
“We’re going to try. We’re really committed to this podcast and making it the best it can be. We’ve recorded a second episode and we have a lot guests interested in appearing on the show.”
“I’m excited. Are you excited? I’m excited.”
It’s been a long time coming but here she is: A Serious Moment, the official podcast of Pop and Ice Cream and popandicecream.com.
On our first episode, we talk with “Friend of the show” and native-to-America Hannah Cochran. Topics include: Heidi Montag, small breasts, Evan’s apparently-too-frequent boners, and travelling through time to impress the ladies. Ross Vincent of Metaleeto fame also makes an appearence, kicking off his Power Minute with Ross Vincent by complaining about Lucas Wagner and wool toques. We finish the show with our groundbreaking “Would You Rather…” segment by debating whether it’s better to pee into Katy Perry’s mouth or take a shit on Seth Rogen.
Episode One: A Serious Pilot w/ Hannah Cochran

(Note: Since this is our pilot episode, it took me awhile to put everything together, so some of our references are outdated, since we recorded this in late January.)
